Coupon Codes & Promotional Discounts
Create alphanumeric promo codes, percentage discounts, and free shipping vouchers
Teyweb Discount Engine Capabilities
Promotions and discount codes are among the most effective marketing levers for driving seasonal sales surges, clearing slow-moving inventory, and acquiring first-time customers.
Teyweb features an alphanumeric coupon engine (`Discount.ts`) that validates coupon rules and usage limits at checkout in real time.
Discount Types: Percentage, Fixed Amount, Free Shipping
When creating a promotional discount, choose the calculation model that aligns with your campaign goals:
| Discount Type | Example Formula | Best Suited For |
|---|---|---|
| Percentage Discount (%) | 15% off cart subtotal | Site-wide sales, holiday flash promotions (e.g. "EASTER15"). |
| Fixed Amount Off (NGN) | ₦5,000 off orders over ₦25,000 | Rewarding high-ticket purchases or welcoming new newsletter subscribers. |
| Free Shipping Coupon | Waives all delivery and courier shipping charges | Incentivizing distant interstate shoppers who hesitate at shipping costs. |
Step-by-Step Coupon Code Creation
To generate a new discount code:
Navigate to Discounts
In your merchant dashboard, open Promotions > Discounts (or Products > Discounts). Click "+ Create Discount".
Set Coupon Code
Enter an uppercase alphanumeric code (e.g., "WELCOME10", "BLACKFRIDAY", "PAYDAY5000"). Click "Generate Random Code" if you prefer a random string.
Select Discount Value
Choose Percentage or Fixed Amount and enter the discount number (e.g., 20% or ₦3,000).
Configure Eligibility & Rules
Define minimum order spend thresholds, date ranges, and maximum usage caps.
Publish
Save the discount. It is immediately eligible for redemption at checkout.
Usage Limits, Minimum Spends & Expiry Dates
To prevent discount abuse and protect your profit margins, configure protective rules:
- Minimum Order Spend: Enforce that the cart subtotal must reach a specific amount (e.g., "Must spend at least ₦20,000 to use this coupon").
- Total Usage Limit: Cap the total number of times the code can ever be redeemed across all customers (e.g. "First 50 shoppers only"). Once reached, the coupon automatically expires.
- Per-Customer Limit: Check "Limit to 1 use per customer" to prevent a single buyer from redeeming the same promotional code repeatedly.
- Active Date Window: Set Start Date and Expiry Date with specific times (e.g., active from Friday 12:00 AM to Sunday 11:59 PM).
Storefront Checkout Validation
On your storefront checkout page, shoppers see a prominent "Have a discount code?" input field.
When they enter a code and click "Apply":
- The coupon engine verifies validity, active dates, minimum spend requirements, and usage caps.
- If valid, the discount is deducted immediately with an informative green badge, and the order grand total updates in real time.
- If invalid or expired, a clear error message is shown (e.g., "This coupon requires a minimum spend of ₦20,000" or "Coupon usage limit has been reached").
